Nord Stream has supported the BYP since its inception in 2008

Sept. 15, 2015 | Zug | Nord Stream AG is looking forward to the Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic (BYP) playing the opening concert of the 22nd Usedom Music Festival in Peenemünde, Germany on September 19, 2015. The BYP was founded by North Stream AG and Usedom Music Festival in 2008. The unique orchestra is now touring for the eighth consecutive year and has successfully played over fifty concerts so far.

The Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic consists of highly talented musicians aged between 18 and 28 from music academies around the entire Baltic Sea Region.

In Peenemünde, the BYP will be led by its founding conductor and music director Kristjan Järvi and will feature the acclaimed Finnish concert pianist Pauli Kari. This year’s programme includes pieces by Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius, as well as the premiere of Finnish vibraphonist Severi Pyysalo’s “Green” Piano Concerto – a powerful evocation of nature and respect for the Baltic Sea region that carries forward the BYP’s commitment to supporting local emerging composers.

The BYP has been nominated to receive the European Cultural Prize 2015, which is awarded every year by the Foundation “Pro Europe” in recognition of achievements that promote dialogue between the European states and regions. As part of its concert schedule, the BYP will provide the musical entertainment for the award ceremony to be held on 2 October at Dresden’s Frauenkirche.
